Education Resource Strategies (ERS) is pleased to announce that Mora Segal and Dr. Heather Peske have joined its Board of Directors. 

“We’re thrilled to welcome Mora and Heather to ERS’ Board of Directors,” said ERS CEO Jonathan Travers. “Together, they bring a powerful combination of expertise—from innovation in teaching and learning to deep experience in state systems and education non-profit leadership—that will strengthen our work alongside districts and states as they navigate complex challenges and opportunities ahead.” 

Dr. Peske currently serves as President of the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), where she leads efforts to ensure every student has access to effective teachers—and every teacher has the opportunity to be effective. 

Prior to joining NCTQ, Dr. Peske served as Senior Associate Commissioner for Instructional Support at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, where she oversaw statewide efforts on curriculum, instruction, and educator effectiveness. During her time with MA DESE, the state saw record high graduation rates and the highest NAEP performance scores in the country. Dr. Peske began her career as an elementary school teacher and has held leadership roles at The Education Trust and Teach Plus. 

“I have long admired ERS as the leading organization supporting state and district education leaders to think strategically about how to best use resources to drive better outcomes for students,” said Peske. “I am honored to join the Board, especially at this time when it has never mattered more how education systems use resources to bring about transformative change in teaching and learning on behalf of all students.” 

Mora Segal currently serves as Managing Director at A-Street, an investment fund focused on solutions in instructional content and measurement, teaching sustainability, and students’ well-being. She is also a Senior Advisor and Co-Founder at Leading Now, which partners with superintendents on strategic communications and public engagement to better serve their communities. 

Segal serves on the boards of Acelero Learning, Latinos for Education, America Achieves, Xello, and the Eli and Phyllis Segal Citizen Leadership Program. Previously, she served as CEO of Achievement Network (ANet), a national organization which partners with educational leaders on learning-centered assessments, leadership coaching, and professional learning. She has held leadership roles at College Summit (now PeerForward) and SchoolSports (now ESPN-Rise).

The new directors will begin their board tenure alongside the new role of ERS founder, Karen Hawley Miles, who is taking on the title of Founder in Residence and will continue to serve as Chair of the Board.
