Free Webinar—Use School Budget Hold’em to Jump-Start Budgeting Conversations

Register Online Now

Wondering how to invest in your school district’s top priorities while also managing your budget? Our upcoming webinar on our game School Budget Hold’em can help. Hold’em is more than a game, it’s an interactive exploration of the thoughtful trade-offs school administrators must make in these challenging budget times. As Catherine Brown, Consultant with Leadership for Educational Equity, said, “The Hold’em game was great! What a clever tool to help policymakers see the trade-offs between different investments and cuts. I know the takeaways will stay with people.”

The webinar will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27.

ERS Principal Associates Randi Feinberg and Genevieve Quist Green will discuss how to facilitate a Hold’em session. They will explain the objectives of the game, how it works, and tips to ensure success. This game has been played by a variety of audiences—including district leadership teams, school boards, policy advocates, groups of teachers, and students in the field of education. This webinar is a must-see for anyone considering facilitating a Hold’em session.

Here’s what’s other game players said about Hold’em:

“Great game for people to understand the big picture and tradeoffs in resource allocations when you have a fixed pot of money. This could help build a level of understand and maybe consensus around tough decisions a district has to make.”

—Bill Andrekopoulos, former Superintendent, Milwaukee Public Schools

“I’d like to play this with parent groups so they can appreciate how difficult the tradeoffs are in budgeting.”

—Ed Vozzella, Director of Finance and Operations, Mansfield Public Schools

“We need new ideas at times, and this really stimulated our thinking.”

—Elizabeth Callahan, Executive Assistant of Business and Finance, Shrewsbury Public Schools
