Sharing Best Practices with Stand for Children

On September 22, I attended Stand for Children Massachusetts’ 2012 Annual Member Summit to speak on a panel about what we’re learning about implementing new teaching evaluation initiatives. The summit was exploring Massachusetts’ work around increased teacher and school leader effectiveness, school funding priorities as well as the the recently passed law S. 2315, “An Act Providing for the Implementation of Education Evaluation Systems in School Districts.” The law, signed by the Governor this past June of 2012, is legislation between Stand for Children and the Massachusetts Teachers Association that prioritized teacher effectiveness in staffing decisions and ended Last In, First Out layoffs.

Attendees at this event included parents, teachers and community members from across Massachusetts, with especially strong showings of parents from Boston, Worcester and Springfield. It was great to have an opportunity to share ERS’ knowledge of best practices around effective teaching and in re-investing scarce school funding in strategic priorities with such an engaged audience.

Thanks to Stand for Children Massachusetts for the invitation!
