What Does It Look Like When Districts Connect PD to Academic Goals?

For an April report, researchers at the nonprofit organization Education Resource Strategies studied three districts and a charter management organization, or CMO, that had made professional learning a core part of their academic strategy, were working with large numbers of low-income students, and were seeing academic gains. They found that in these case study systems, professional learning activities are tightly coordinated with each other and supported by the school system in terms of resources, policies, and practices. What ERS calls “connected professional learning” is strongly connected to the everyday work of teaching.
