Ilana is a member of the South Bend Empowerment Zone Team, on which she analyzes various strategic approaches for turnaround schools to improve student outcomes.
Prior to joining ERS, Ilana earned her B.A. from Elon University, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in Political Economics. After graduation, she took a one year fellowship position in NYC, in which she combined policy research and direct service focused on urban poverty and the welfare system. A key component of her work involved teaching GED math to individuals on public assistance. Additionally, she researched the long-term effects of undiagnosed learning disabilities on academic outcomes and unemployment experiences. As a result of her work, she was able to streamline a process for individuals on public assistance taking the TASC (GED) exam to get free disability testing through the state. Ultimately, she helped over 30 individuals obtain their high school diplomas.
Outside of work, Ilana is an avid equestrian. She also enjoys borrowing friends’ dogs for hikes, reading historical fiction and traveling to the world’s best gelato spots!
