Jessica is currently working with the Los Angeles Unified School District to revisit their approach in helping struggling schools improve. In the past, she’s worked with the Baltimore City Public Schools to understand the long-term financial trajectory of the district and help them communicate the underlying causes of their budget gap. This helped Baltimore get $180M back into the budget from state and city sources. She has also worked with the Baltimore finance team to make the formula they use to distribute funding to each of their schools more equitable and transparent.
Beyond her partnership with districts, Jessica has also worked on research, writing, and tool development. As a continuation from what she learned in Baltimore, she contributed to the revision of the Student-Based Budgeting Implementation Guide. And as part of the Human Capital Practice Area team, she works continuously to improve the tools for our human capital analysis to make them more efficient and informative.
Before joining ERS, worked in the New Haven Public School’s Office of Research, Assessment, and Student Information, with funding from the Cohen Public Service Fellowship. There, she designed tools to visualize students’ academic trajectories and conducted investigations to inform the decisions of district leadership.
Outside of work, Jessica enjoys exploring Cambridge’s surprisingly large number of used book stores.
