Since joining ERS in 2011, Laura has conducted resource use analyses, high-level strategy support, and school-based budgeting support in over 20 school districts including Denver, Atlanta, Prince George’s County and Indianapolis. Internally, she is a methodology guru, helping ensure comparability across projects, and develop methodology to explore new questions. This work has included development of ERS’s Strategic Snapshot, a data-informed, holistic series of assessments to support district leaders in their efforts to redesign school systems. Currently she is working with Atlanta Public schools to support their implementation of school-based budgeting, and leading internal research and development of a tool to support districts understand and set goals based on the expected impact of different policies or initiatives.
She earned an M.A. in Education Studies from University of Michigan, which included coursework on quantitative research methods, coaching, and Data Wise, a process for collaborative data exploration. Prior to joining ERS, Laura worked as an analyst at ICF, maintaining database systems and modeling greenhouse gas emissions in the power sector for the EPA to support environmental regulations.
Laura has a wide variety of interests, which include quantitative analysis and methodology, solving puzzles, puns, and organizing the annual office slow cook-off competition. Outside of work, she can be found running a 5K, traveling along the east coast, or taking aerial silks classes.
