ERS Team

Simon Ellis

he/him/his
Associate

As an Analyst, Simon supports district partner work through quantitative and qualitative data analysis, contextualizing data within the experience of stakeholders in the district, and grounding in lived student backgrounds and outcomes. Simon has worked on a variety of projects across content areas, but more recently has specialized in supporting districts with expanding and implementing career technical education programs. His work has spanned the country, partnering with districts in Los Angeles, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Maryland, and more to support strategic school design, financial system redesign, and schedule support. Simon has also worked on a number of ERS publications and studies, including co-authoring the High School Re-design guidebooks and case studies in Mesa Public Schools and Alliance College Ready Public Schools.

Prior to joining ERS, Simon worked in schools in Boston, first as an 8th grade science teacher then in school operations. He uses his background in the classroom and at the school-level to better contextualize the work he does with district partners. Simon has also spent time working with the Massachusetts Department of Education reimagining standardized testing for future students across the Commonwealth, the Harvard Graduate School of Education as a mentor and teacher-coach, and as an advisor for an ed-tech startup.

Outside of work, Simon prioritizes time spent outdoors with friends. Originally from Hawai’i, he has adapted well to the Northeast climate and enjoys skiing, hiking, and sometimes even surfing off of the Massachusetts coast. You can usually find him running across Boston, grabbing dinner in the North-End, or exploring new parks across the city.”
