Field Building Lead
Torrie works on building two-way connections between our work and the larger education field.
Prior to joining ERS, Torrie worked on the Educator Effectiveness team at the Southern Regional Education Board, providing states with policy advisory and technical implementation partnership related to educator evaluation, preparation, recruitment, retention, professional development, and compensation. She also led the team's strategic communications, including authoring a series of publications and helping to launch communities of practice with both state agencies and educators. Prior to this work, Torrie spent five years as an elementary school educator and teacher-leader in Metro Nashville Public Schools.
She has a B.S. in Childhood Education from Elmira College and an M.Ed. in Community Development and Action with a focus in Education Policy from Vanderbilt University. As a result of these work experiences and programs, she is especially passionate about change agency at the organizational, community, political, and systems-levels—especially related to issues of teacher voice.
When she isn't thinking about political and change agency, she enjoys eating (but not cooking), torturing herself with an unrelenting devotion to the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, and hiking with the world's most incredible rescue dog.
