Zachary Friedman

Data and Learning Specialist

In his role as an Associate, Zach identifies key questions, processes and analyzes data, and frames insights in the context of district partners’ needs. Recent work includes supporting Columbus City Schools in diagnosing, implementing, and designing a new equitable school-based staffing model. Additionally, Zach leads internal work to improve ERS’ data processing tools–helping shift consultants from using Excel to R to improve speed, transparency, accuracy, reproducibility, and scalability. Zach also is a member of the professional learning team, leading sessions on data representation and data validation.

Prior to ERS, Zach developed a passion for education through his experience as a teaching fellow at Breakthrough, teaching Geometry in Miami. Zach graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan and earned his Master’s Degree in Learning Analytics from Teachers College, Columbia. He has contributed to research in the areas of teacher mentorship, turnover in Chicago Public Schools, and classroom donation patterns. Having worked for and ClassLink, he is fascinated with how technology can improve the field of education.
