The Strategic System Snapshot: Assessment and Metrics

April 9, 2018

The Strategic System Snapshot: Assessment and Metrics

The Strategic System for Strong Schools is an evolution of our School System 20/20 vision for school systems. It is more than a concept—it includes a diagnostic assessment which we review with district leaders to help them identify changes that will lead to improved student performance. We call that process the Snapshot.

In partnership with the district, we gather high-level data and conduct interviews with a variety of stakeholders. The Snapshot helps us compare the district’s resource use policies and practices with successful strategies we’ve seen in the research literature and in our experience with school systems.

This process builds a rich fact base about how people, time and money are allocated at the system and school level, which can be used to identify next steps in strategic planning, as well as a baseline for future progress.

More on The Strategic System

Some schools beat the odds by “doing school” in new ways. But for every school and every child to thrive, we need to change the odds by creating strategic school systems. Restructuring the use of people, time, and money makes this possible. From 2014-2017 we created three case studies of districts who each took different paths to student growth and district transformation. Read those case studies:

  • Impact of The School System 20/20 Diagnostic on 15 Districts
  • District Findings: Avoyelles Parish
  • It Takes a System: A Case Study of Denver Public Schools
  • The Rewards of Perseverance: A Case Study of Aldine Independent School District
  • Back from the Brink: A Case Study of Lawrence Public Schools
