Sustaining Turnaround at Scale Summit Briefs

A major effort is underway in school districts across the country to improve the academic performance of students at the lowest-achieving schools. With this backdrop, Education Resource Strategies held a summit in October 2011, Sustaining Turnaround at Scale, that brought together central office leaders and principals from eight districts, as well as attendees from organizations that partner with turnaround schools and influence the conversation about turnaround.

The first brief summarizes some of the major discussions and findings from the convening. The second brief compiles and analyzes the findings and addresses the critical question: How can districts use SIG and other, often temporary resources, to build lasting change that improves both student performance in target schools and district systems to keep schools from failing in the first place?
